A reliable fire alarm system is only as good as its maintenance. The Evacuator Synergy + V3 system is designed for performance and safety, but like all life-saving equipment, it requires regular checks to ensure everything works as expected. Whether you’re a site manager, safety officer, or facilities supervisor, understanding how to maintain your Synergy system is essential.
Weekly Maintenance: A Quick Visual Check
Once a week, carry out a visual inspection of your entire Synergy system. This includes:
-
Call Points
-
Auto Detectors
-
Relays
-
Any other connected devices
Check for any visible damage, unplugged components, or signs of tampering. These checks should be done by a competent person within your organization, someone who understands the system and can identify potential issues before they escalate.
Annual Maintenance: A Deeper System Inspection
Once a year, go beyond visual checks. Your annual maintenance should include:
-
All the weekly inspections
-
A functional test of 25% of the devices connected to the Base Station using the V3 Test Facility
-
Battery replacement for any low-powered units
-
Investigation into any devices not connected to the Base Station
Annual maintenance must be performed by an Evacuator-approved technician or company to ensure compliance and accuracy.
System Testing: Keep the Alarms Active
A full alarm test should be conducted at least every four weeks. During this test:
-
Activate the system from a call point letting the sounders ring
-
Document any issues or non-responsive units
-
Follow your organization’s risk assessment, you may need to test more frequently in higher-risk environments
Tests should be performed by a Fire Marshal or other trained personnel.
Record Keeping: Log Everything
Every test and maintenance activity should be recorded in your Fire Log Book. This ensures traceability and helps identify recurring issues. Any concerns or irregularities discovered during checks must be investigated immediately.
Using the V3 Test Facility (Code: 6767)
The V3 Base Station includes a Test Facility to simplify maintenance:
1. Press Button A on the V3 Base Station.
2. Select “Enter code for more options”.
3. Input 6767 to access the Test Mode.
4. Enter the device number you wish to test.
When testing:
-
All three LEDs on the selected device will illuminate, showing it’s isolated for testing.
-
Call Points will chirp when activated but won’t trigger system-wide alarms.
-
Detectors can be tested using a smoke can or heat pole, the blue LED will turn off once activated successfully.
-
After testing, reset each device using Buttons A & B, and use the call point reset key where applicable.
Cleaning detector heads with compressed air after testing helps maintain sensitivity and prolong device life.
Regular maintenance is not just a recommendation, it’s a safety necessity. Weekly checks catch small issues early, monthly system tests ensure readiness, and annual professional maintenance keeps your Evacuator Synergy system compliant and reliable.
By following these steps and maintaining proper records, you can be confident that your alarm system will perform flawlessly when it’s needed most.
